The Richard Wagner Society of South Australia Incorporated was founded in 1986, inspired by The State Opera of South Australia’s production of Der Fliegende Holländer. We now have around 70 members, and you are warmly invited to join us.
Our Patron is the Helden Baritone, John Wegner AO.
The Society publishes a regular Newsletter for members (available in hard copy or via email) and an occasional News Update (email only, non-members can subscribe below at no cost), and promotes various sorts of activities: lectures, workshops, audio-visual presentations and special functions.

Lectures/ Seminars: Scholarly lectures are delivered both by local members and by visiting luminaries. These are usually held on a Thursday evening at 8.00 pm or on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2.30 pm. Following the lecture, there is a light supper/afternoon tea and the audience can chat with the speaker.
Special Functions: Each year on or near the February 13, we commemorate the death of Richard Wagner with The Wake, and we celebrate the anniversary of his birth on or near May 22. There is also an End of Year Lunch in November/December. These are light-hearted events, with good food and drink, and entertainments.
Other Functions: From time to time, we invite artists to give recitals of the music of Wagner and his circle, and sometimes we have gatherings during the day to listen to CD’s/DVD’s and to provide a gentler introduction to various aspects of Wagner’s output.
